Each winter I seem to be writing about unusual weather conditions, but no one here can remember it having been so warm in February as it is this year. It has been above freezing for several days now and today the temperature was + 7 degrees C. This sort of weather one would expect at the end of March/beginning of April. A lot of snow is melting now and the snow has already gone from the trees.
They are promising + degrees for the next few days and it will be interesting to see how long it continues.
Last Saturday myself and Emma took our first trip out on the snowmobile to do some ice fishing.
Unfortunately O got the snowmobile stuck in deep snow and after thirty minutes trying to dig it out, it was still stuck fast. Fortunately 5 guys on snowmobiles stopped to help me and the six of us eventually managed to get the snowmobile out.
We fished for two hours and had several bites and twice fish took our worm from the hook but we caught nothing!!
I have been trying to get a decent picture of a Hazel Grouse for a long time and using my new Panasonic Lumix TZ40 which I am currently trying out, I feel that I have succeeded!!
This particular bird was feeding on buds in a Birch tree. This is a relatively small grouse at 35–39 centimetres (14–15 in) in length.
The calls of Hazel Grouse remind me of Treecreeper. You can hear Hazel Grouse calls here,
We have returned from England, having had a great time. So many family and friends visited us bringing with them gifts for Kelly……thanks everyone.
On our return trip to Sweden, Ray Mears and his wife went through security at Heathrow at the same time as us (he was travelling to a location not far from where we live, to run his Arctic Survival Course).
I had a quick chat with him after we had been through security and attempted to thank him for the influence some of his programmes have had on my life, but I was a bit of a babbling idiot and it was also clear that he didn’t really want to chat.
They were also on the same aircraft with us travelling to Stockholm, but decided not to try and talk with him again.
