Although we will unfortunately not be able to move to our new house until DECEMBER!!, the current owner has kindly agreed that I can start some of the jobs that we need completed before the winter.
The first task is to complete a 20m2 out-building where we can keep snow scooters, cycles and other outdoor equipment.
A neighbour kindly gave me three telegraph poles which i planned to use to construct a base for the out-building.
I measured and marked out the location for the new out-building (the old building you see is unsafe to use and will have to be demolished)
Once marked out I began cutting the poles to length.
and then jointed the poles at the corners to form a flat, level base
I am heading off to the mountains later this week on a fishing trip, but when I return, I must begin construction of the out-building. Fortunately there is something keeping an eye on what I am doing.
Not much has happened over the last week so I thought I would show a picture of three knives I have made recently.
The materials used are; moose antler, half tanned leather, sallow root bur and birch bur.
Yesterday reindeer were gathered up into a corral to mark the calves.
Each calf has a unique series of cuts made into it’s ears to show who owns the calf
Some of the reindeer are already growing a nice set of horns ready for the breeding season in the autumn.
Some of the reindeer were tame enough to feed.
As usual we made fires and grilled sausage and cooked coffee.
Not really much to write about today.
After returning from England I developed a cold and now have a lung infection, so haven’t been out much.
The weather here is still relatively cold (10 – 15 degrees and just above freezing at night).
Unfortunately we are not going to be able to our new house until December, when it’s likely to be 30 below and 2 metres of snow!!
Hopefully will have more to rite about next time.
